Vet LIFT – “Veterans Living Independently Following Treatment”

Vet Lift Volunteers Wanted!   How can individuals or groups help?

Individually: you can participate for an hour or more weekly, monthly or as requested by a participating Veteran.

Groups: For example, service clubs, sororities, lodges, VFW or American Legion Posts, corporate or community service groups can participate by selecting a monthly, annual or special one time project to adopt as their project. 

Examples of Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Employment:

  • Gain access for St. Vincent DePaul Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to talk to potential employers about the benefits available to the employer to hire a pre-qualified Veteran  Part time, full time, temporary or permanent.

Sharing your hobbies:

  • Take a Vet golfing, fishing, hiking
  • Do cooking classes

Donating tickets you are not using (receipts for income tax deductions are available):

  • Athletic events i.e. U of O Basketball. Baseball and football
  • Performing arts i.e. Symphony, Ballet, Theater

Donating, Clean usable (receipts for income tax deductions are available):

  • Clothing, linens, bedding
  • Canned or packaged nonperishable food
  • On going toiletries needed  i.e. Razors, denture cream tooth paste, laundry soap, toilet paper and quarters to do laundry, etc.

Examples of Group Volunteer Opportunities

Fund raising:

  • Major i.e. Matching Funds for Van to take Vets for Medical appointments, special outings, grocery shopping etc..

Staging or assisting in special events:

  • Holiday parties
  • Picnics
  • Camping outings
