Vets Housing Project
The Vets Housing Project - Serving Those Who Served Our Country is a partnership of private, public and non-profit organizations, providing affordable rental housing for veterans returning from overseas deployments. An estimated 900 local National Guard members have returned home from deployment overseas in the past several years. Many of these veterans face uncertain financial futures, following multiple deployments that interrupt careers and lives. Moving into safe and affordable housing provides time and a stable platform for these families to rebuild their lives as they transition back into the community.
St. Vincent de Paul has recently acquired two foreclosed properties at an affordable price from Lane County and will continue to own and manage the homes. Several partners, including the City of Eugene, U.S. Senator Wyden’s office, EWEB, the Home Builders Association, Ehlers Construction, Siuslaw Bank, and many others from the community will assist with this project and provide everything from rehabilitation monies and materials to volunteers. The National Guard will assist with family selection and provide support services.
This is a community project and both skilled and unskilled volunteers are needed. All are welcome and can sign up for a Saturday work crew by contacting Rebecca at St. Vinnie's (541-743-7121) or rlarson@svdp.us<mailto:rlarson@svdp.us. Donations are also welcome - from snacks for volunteers to supplies associated with interior/exterior rehab or plants to landscape the yards.
