Suicide Prevention Trainings

Suicide Prevention Online Training

The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) has an online training site offering several general courses to increase understanding and to help communities develop effective suicide prevention programs and policies.  All courses are available free of charge and be completed at your own pace. http://training.sprc.org/

QPR:

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer -- three simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying "Yes" to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor. QPR can be learned in our Gatekeeper course in as little as one hour. QPR is also offered in Spanish. For more information or to schedule a QPR training, contact Sandy.Moses@co.lane.or.us.

ASIST:

ASIST

ASIST, developed by LivingWorks Education in Canada, is designed to help caregivers recognize risk and learn how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. The workshop is for all caregivers (any person in a position of trust). This includes professionals, paraprofessionals and lay people. It is suitable for mental health professionals, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, teachers, counselors, youth workers, police and correctional staff, school support staff, clergy, and community volunteers. The program is formally designated as an 'evidence-based program' in Oregon and is listed on the Suicide Prevention Resource Center and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Best Practice registry.

For more information on ASIST, visit http://www.livingworks.net and ColumbiaCare Services, www.columbiacare.org/Page.asp?NavID=95.

RESPONSE:

RESPONSE is a comprehensive high school based youth suicide awareness program that is designed to heighten awareness of depression and suicide. The program has awareness components for school staff, students and parents and requires schools to send 2 staff members to an ASIST training to prepare them to keep a student at risk safe until s/he reaches the next level of care. RESPONSE is a designated best practice and is also listed on the Suicide Prevention Resource Center and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Best Practice registry.
