Maria, Community Health Analyst on the Prevention Team, coordinates the Eugene Springfield Prevention Coalition, which is funded by a Drug Free Communities Grant. In her position, Maria reaches out and works with community leaders across Eugene and Springfield to build and enhance community collaboration around the effort to reduce substance abuse and misuse among youth.
Maria was born in California, but has lived in five states, including Oregon. She recently graduated from the University of Oregon (UO) with a graduate degree in Counseling, Family and Human Services with a specialization in Prevention Sciences. As a graduate student, Maria worked as a program coordinator for the UO Student Veteran Services. Previously, she had worked as a project coordinator for educational research at the UO Center on Teaching and Learning.
Maria holds a BA in Journalism/Public Relations with a minor in Political Science from California State University, Long Beach. Maria has worked in education across the many platforms including working for a school district, community college, and a small elementary school serving military and migrant families in Northern California. Maria cares deeply about the youth and healthy youth development. Her passion is her family, camping, hiking and yoga.
