Christy is the Tobacco Prevention and Education Program Coordinator for Lane County Public Health.  She works with community partners to implement policy, systems, and environmental changes that help people quit tobacco use and prevent youth from starting a lifelong addiction to tobacco.

Christy obtained her Master of Public Health degree from Loma Linda University (LLU) in southern California.  Her education emphasized health promotion and education, environmental and occupational health, and health geographic information systems (GIS).  During graduate school, she volunteered with the American Heart Association to reduce heart disease and stroke disparities among Latinos in a local community.  She worked as a Graduate Assistant in the LLU Health Geoinformatics Laboratory, where she helped to identify teen birth clusters in San Bernardino County.  Before graduating, she worked as a Professional Student Intern at the Riverside County Department of Public Health Office of Industrial Hygiene on a HUD-funded Healthy Homes Program to address disparities in childhood asthma.

Before joining Lane County Public Health, she worked nearly seven years for the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services as a Health Educator and Environmental Specialist with the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, as a Research Analyst with the Bureau of HIV, STD, and Hepatitis, and as a Senior Epidemiology Specialist on the Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology Team with the Office of Epidemiology.  She moved to Lane County at the beginning of 2013 from her home state of Missouri to accept this position.

Christy grew up in the Ozarks of Southeastern Missouri, where she developed a passion for public health, social justice, volunteering with her faith-based organization, learning, reading, writing, traveling, genealogy, photography, vegan cooking, organic gardening, hiking, camping, mountain biking, canoeing, and all other things outdoors.  She continues to foster these passions surrounded by the beauty of Oregon!
